Tommy Butler for Weld County Council – At Large

TommyButler

My name is Tommy Butler, and I’m running for Weld County Council – At Large – because our government should serve the people of Weld County.         The County Council is our County’s oversight board. Its members perform audits, monitor conflicts of interest, and set county elected officials’ salaries. I hope to bring more accountable leadership and real oversight on the Council. And until our County Commissioners are more accountable to the people of Weld County, they shouldn’t see a pay raise.

Now, that you know why I am running, let me back up and tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in rural, Rifle, Colorado. After High School, I graduated from UNC in Greeley and found a great community that my wife, Molly, and I fell in love with—it’s where we bought our first home. I currently work at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. I’m on the executive committee of the Weld County Democratic Party and the board of the Weld County Young Dems—to put it simply, I’m a proud rural Democrat. Being active in the community has helped me get to know the amazing people that live and work in Weld County and the issues that matter to them. I believe in the future of Weld County, because I live here. Its where I want to raise a family, and I want to ensure that our economy is built for the long run, so that we can pass it on to the next generation.

One of the most important roles of the County Council is to perform audits; we need to take a real look at how sustainable our county’s economy is with an eye toward the future. We need to be asking the important questions now. What can we do to diversify our county’s economy? And what are we doing that might be hurting our long-term sustainability?

Another reason I am running is because we aren’t represented by our current leadership. I have been disturbed by the constant bickering that we see from our current County Commissioners. We need leadership that will work to build relationships instead of leaders that pick a side in a fight and dig in. If I am elected, I will hold community meetings all over the county so that you, and everyone else in our community, have the opportunity to speak with your representatives and share your thoughts and ideas.

Our elected leaders can’t represent us if they don’t know how we feel about the issues that matter most. Our representatives should serve the people. The Weld County Council can do just that. My name is Tommy Butler. I’m running for Weld County Council – At Large because I will serve the people of Weld County.
